In general, they certainly can be touched-up. I don't know of a CM yet that doesn't use a touch up step of some description. However, you'll want to be looking at the process to try and determine what is causing the pin holes and blow holes, and tr

We understand that you have boards in production that you need to ship. In the future, you could eliminate your moisture caused blow hole issue a lot more simply than baking. Consider requiring that your board fab plate the copper thickness of throug

If it was ROHS I would suspect copper migration. In my experience an acceptable copper finish should last up to at least 6 reflow cycles. If you have bubbles or blow holes in the solder joint, that is a sign of voids in the walls of the copper barre

| | Recently, there has been an upsurge in the Pin Hole/Blow Hole problem in our wave soldering process. We are baking the PCBs for 2 Hrs. at 125 degree C. The Wave Soldering profile seems to be O.K. Still the problem is persistent. Can somebody h

Hello, I have been recently bringing a new RoHS wave soldering machine into production. Unfortunately, I am finding many of the boards are experiencing blow holes. It is always silver plated PCBs and I believe it is related to moisture ingress. I n

Blow holes/ pin holes in solder joints are the result of multiple root causes. Suggested analysis might look like this; 1) What method of solder preservation is used on the bare board. (hasl, enig, osp, etc.) HASL can leave unwanted flux residues,

Does anyone have any information on baking boards to remove moisture before reflowing and waving assemblies? I've been told that we should do this to stop such problems as delamination of boards, blow holes, solder balls, etc. I don't know have any e

Joris, Yep, very common to have those small blow holes in lead-free alloys. We used to get them very consistently on white-tin finished boards, and less frequently with gold finished boards, for what ever that is worth. IPC-610 actually allows t

Try lifting the part with a small piece of paper. I've seen caps that did this and giving the flux a way to vent out the top side of the board got rid of the blow holes. It'll take ya 2 seconds to to try - that plus the 3 minutes to wave solder.
