Folk's, One of my 'fellow' engineer's is brining in a new board that his customer has said shouldn't go over the wave..but he want's us to use intrusive reflow on a connector on the bottom side of the board..so since I was standing in the wrong pla

Again, if the connectors can stand reflow temperatures you have the option of intrusive reflow (pin in paste)where you print paste over the holes for one of the connectors. I have did this before on a slightly different type of connector. Works prett

We do a lot of intrusive reflow. It works very well but the others are correct you need to verify that the part can survive the high temps. Most TH components are not rated for reflow, we have to test each one ourselves.

When designing a PCB to accommodate an intrusive reflow narrow profile connector (electrode rectangular) with specific dimensions, you'll need to consider the pad size, hole size, and other factors to ensure proper solderability and mechanical stabil

John, Were doing an intrusive reflow process on a single sided board, where all the conventional parts are on the "top" of the board. Due to the nature of the board, and the kind of componets on it, we couldn't wave solder it. To keep it contai

Hello Steve There is a wealth of information on this process in the archives. Please search for pin in paste, paste in hole, intrusive reflow, etc. You'll find links to Bob Willis, Amp and Phil Zarrow as well. Many of us use this process daily with

You should also consider intrusive reflow (aka pin in hole relow but be aware of the thermal possibilities of your through hole components and ask support from a stencil supplier that has done this before. Hope this helps, Phil

I am not aware of any IPC specifications but Bob Willis in the UK has some real nice stuff. http://www.bobwillis.co.uk/

Does anyone have any experience with any lead free solder paste and the "paste in hole " or intrusive reflow process? I am interested in how the lower "spread" of lead free paste reacts in a through hole soldering process.

Anyone use these for soldering through-hole components? Our comapny is contemplating several options such as preforms, capital equipment like spot soldering equipment and the intrusive reflow system. We are in the process of deciding which strategy we
