Since you are using an Ionograph you need to use IPC-TM-650 method 2.3.25, static method. The test method is free on the IPC website. You'll need to get your customer to give you an acceptable cleanliness level to test to.

Hi davef, Will the ion chromatography be able to quantify then identify where and what the contaminant is? Is this a destructive type of testing or the PCB will remain intact right after the test? thanks for the inputs. dreamy

The EMPF published a nice article, now old but relative, to Cleanliness. www.empf.org Under Technical Docs The listing is ... RR0013 - An In-Depth Look at Ionic Cleanliness Testing - August 1993. Cal

The only thing I would add to Chunks comments are components like buzzers, switches etc. that cannot get wet. For whatever it is worth, ionographs, omegameters and the like use the same basic alcohol/water mix for cleanliness testing. Russ

I have used Indium SMQ 92 H (not the newer J flux type) It cleans perfectly in the aqueous cleaner. Ionograph results come up clean.

"Ionization of the air causes an increase in conductivity..." I have an Ionograph and everytime I open the test lid cover the Baseline Stabilization Resistivity Value s by 60M Ohm-cm. My question is: Is there something to worry about our facilities

Thanks for the reply. R/O/I is ROSE / Omegameter / Ionograph which is used as a baseline for Ion Chromatography.

I would think that it would be the readings you get from known calibrated samples. i.e. you get samples to test with known values and you test them and see if you get the correct values. Don't rule out your customer not knowing what they are asking

HI can anyone tell me if they ask there board houses to hold to a max amount of contamination NaCl per sq /in on there incomming bare boards, I have a Ionograph 500SMD and have been testing some of the bare boards comming in to stock, some are much
