I know this was not on your list but have you looked at SRT? That is where I would go... I have used AirVac, Ersa, Metcal, Conceptronics and SRT SRT is is the Best from where I stand, Good Luck...

I need to purchase a rework tool mainly for QFP's including 30mm x 30mm. I was looking at a Metcal QX2 and a Pace TF200. I would welcome any comments on these two products or any other suggestions. Also, is a preheater necessary?

The Metcal will run you around $5,000.00. The Pace is over $6,000.00. Check out Hakko model 852/853 for under $2,000.00 If your in the NewEngland area call us we sell them also.

40K most likely SRT > 40k most likely Weller Liester Hako Metcal There is a bigger list of companies that I wouldn't give the time of day to.

I beg to differ but the old metcals do handle lead free with no problems - Unless we have a rogue batch of ancient super MX500's.

Danotherms for hot air rework & Metcal MX500's for irons = very happy staff (& very unhappy accountants!)

Bought the Metcal scope. Rarely use it. Never have any issues with BGA. Prove out your process and unless you change something, it will collect dust. I know.
