Capacitor securing

3M jetmelt. A bit better than off the shelf reg hotmelt. Also use a GE white RTV. Never had any caps come off the board with either. DG

Hi Dave, How/why is the 3M better? Sounds like you did some research and was wondering if reg. ol' hot melt might cause some other problems to the board. I bet the 3M costs a bit more too.

So it looks like 3M Jetmelt 3748 and 3779 would be suitable for what i need. Were either of these the ones you were refering to?

Looking at the data for the 3748 material it says its only heat resistent to 79 C. Im going to go with the 3779 instead because of the higher temp rating (149C). Thanks JD

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Chipbonder seems like a good idea, we use it other places. Only thing that worries me with that is the price, that stuff isnt exactly cheap...

We don't think chip mount adhesives have very good sheer strength. If there's any flex induced during vibration, we doubt them to be a good choice.

Securing Large Inductors

Does anybody have a slick way to hold down large inductors? Like 2 to 3 inches in diameter. There must be something better than ty-wraps and RTV.

We already tried that. The sugar seems to have a bad reaction with the varnish on the Inductors. Do they make a sugar-free version?? Can you send me some samples??

DaveF, would the adhesive be strong enough to keep the part from vibrating free over time? DO you know any part numbers? These inductors have quite a high mass. I would profer to lay them down on thier side but there is not enough room.
