In real terms the temperature compatibility is the real issue. Yes a component can and in most case will cover the paste. The component standoffs must prevent the body contacting the paste to prevent solderballing. Bob Just back from dinner, my mum

Jax, Depends on exactly what information you are looking for. The components that give me most headaches (compatability, suffixes etc;) are IC's. Have a look at the below site. Contains links etc for lots of useful technical and commercial stuff.

Can anyone tell me why Philips would obsolete my feeders. I am trying to add a newer machine to my line and I am told that the feeders from my 84VZ no longer work. Is this true?

One of the requirements for our components and PCBs is fluid compatibility. They are tested by a 30 second immersion in the applicable solvent/cleaner/fluid, then they are tested for functionality and degradation.
