IPC’s Hand Soldering Competition at SMT Hybrid Packaging 2016 will see skilled competitors go soldering iron to soldering iron, April 26-28, as they compete for cash prizes and a coveted spot at the IPC Hand Soldering World Championship at IPC APEX EXPO® in San Diego in 2017.

For the first time, IPC hosted a regional hand soldering competition in Vincenza, Italy, at Focus on PCB May 17-18. Welcoming 28 competitors representing 20 Italian companies, contestants competed to build an assembly in accordance with IPC-A-610, Class 3 criteria and were judged on the functionality of the assembly, compliance with the assembly process, and overall product quality. IPC Master Instructors (MIT) from IPC training center GestLabs judged contestants, allowing a maximum of one hour to complete the process.

IPC's Validation Services Program has awarded an IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 Qualified Manufacturers Listing (QML) requalification to Alternative Manufacturing Inc (AMI). Located in Winthrop, Maine, AMI, is an employee-owned company serving a wide range of clients in medical, industrial, green technologies, robotics, and mil/aero markets. To earn requalification, AMI completed an intensive audit based on IPC's foremost standards: IPC J-STD-001, Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies and IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies.

IPC's Validation Services Program has awarded an IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 Qualified Manufacturers Listing (QML), meeting Class 3 requirements, to Colonial Assembly and Design, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zentech Manufacturing. In conjunction with Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2023, IPC hosted the UK regional Hand Soldering Competition in Farnborough, UK., February 7-9, welcoming 27 competitors from 20 European electronics companies. Skilled contestants competed to build an assembly in accordance with IPC-A-610 – Class 3 criteria, and were judged on the functionality of the assembly, compliance with the assembly process, and overall product quality. Contestants were allowed a maximum of one hour to complete the process.
IPC is the trade association for the printed wiring board and electronics assembly industries.
