Sounds like they may be hitting some kind of submerged obstruction in the wave, maybe? Is it only MELFs that are affected, or any other similar sized components, such as Tantalum caps?

We wave solder no MELF. When we analyzed this a couple of years ago, the temperature extremes of the wave affected LT reliability.

Specify the nozzle size as 1.4 in both the nozzle allocation table and the PD, the nozzles will still pass center test as the size variation is still within tolerence.

Never used U shapes for 0603 but have used them for MELF pkg. Never had a problem printing as long as area ratio is acceptable. So just out of curiosity, why U shape for 0603? Russ

Thanks Pavel, Have tried all that, including some exorbitantly expensive MELF nozzles but it does seem that the good old weight method still works best.

Are you using the old type FV or the new CL Feeders? We place melfs all day long and never ran into a problem with feeder advancement. Sometime the manufactures of the components apply to much glue to the tape which can cause problems with feeder adv
