I'm looking for some input on a pay scale for experienced SRT/DRS operators. They do not do any profiling or process work - only remove/site prep/replace type work, along with any 'special' jobs like trace repair, masking repair, etc. They're current

| We only do rework with SMT components or a small amount of SMT work. We are having a hard time keeping the components safe throughout the handling process of removing one or two components, and issuing them to an operator for processing or inspect

I have been using a srt-1000 since 98. My guess is your heating up the part too fast. What is your heating rate (deg. C per second)? PBGA's do warp. Your profile should mimic your smt process (assuming you have no warping there). Also, check wit

Any ideas on what to buy? Only need to build surface mount protos, ability to rework. Is a rework station okay? Will subcontract production after design is proven.

You're correct. This design will have a record amount of 0402 rework for tombstoning and misalignments. Suggest that the pads on each end of all components be the same size in order to balance wetting forces during reflow.

What I would look at is the chemicals being used in the facility where the complaints are. Flux/flux gel, IPA, cleaning agents, etc. Perhaps you should limit the usage to certain people only, who would be trained how to properly use these. Something

You should be able to do it with the proper epoxy. I found one several years ago that was so strong during the sheer test the board delaminated and gave before the glue. I did not go with it for rework reasons, thats something you might want to th

Use the same size samples all the time, eh?

Alan, You're right, mass inspection after assembly won't work. The inspectors will miss 25% (or more) of the defects, and the boards will be reworked before SMT operators can properly define defects and their sources. The company I work for tends to
