If I need a lawyer I'll look you up. To get into that kind of detail you will have to look at the legislation itself in question. And I"m sure if there were any such loophole it would be plugged by now. But we had a customer that found something l

I assume that you're talking about wanting to solder to metal tabs that are spot welded to the battery terminal. These tabs are not meant to be soldered. The metal was special selected for welding. In the old days, you could buy plumbing flux at th

Are you sure there is any "cleaning" needed? Can you see leftover bits of the teflon remaining? If so, work on it with an Xacto knife. But, most thermocouple wires are VERY hard to solder - as in practically impossible. Many of them have aluminum

I've never seen this before and I would be suspicious. Have you tried to dust it off with a brush or Q-tip, it might just be some sort of process contamination. Have you looked at the reel to see if the parts are coming in with these spots from the

Do any of you use your AOI machines to inspect do-not-install locations? Do you look for solder bridges or stray parts in those spots? Everything I have learned and heard involves part placement and solder quality. But is it worth going that extra le

We have for a time been collecting data, but unfortunately don't use it. The issue we have is with mainly missing items being found at inspection or un-soldered joints not being spotted. I am wondering if anyone else in the same situation and NOT us

Questions are: * So after you spot one of these leads sitting on a nice pillow of solder, what happens? * Do you rework the part? * Does it take solder? * What do you do to make it take solder, if it does take solder?

The most effective cleaning of high solids RMA has been with a good saponifier (5-7%) [eg, Kyzen Aquanox, Lonox formulations, Envirosense Envirogold, etc ] in deionized water, 150F, with 2-3 DI water rinses. Dull solder connections when you do spot

Hi Nikhilesh, It was a long time ago, but we used to buy the nickel in reels then had a cut and feed station on the smt machine with selectable sizes. We did many types of boards in very large volumes, and usually the Nickel strip was soldered to t

As Dave said stainless steel can not be soldered using fluxes designed for electronics. The only way this could be done is to spot plate copper or tin where you want to make the solder connection.
