A very quick survey regarding PCB finishes for a lead-free process. What is the most popular PCB finish for lead-free soldering ? Who drives the selection of the finish, assembler or designer ? Are tin whiskers an issue for anyone ? I'm coming at th

I have never done these components before, but if you have performed capability studies on your dispense equipment you should be able to tell if this is feasable. I can tell you that 0402 and 0201 especially 0201 requires great accuracy and volume.

Thank you for your input Russ. I do understand the technical challenges that 0402-0201 present. As a matter of fact, I personally think it is a bad idea for these devices to even be processed using conventional assembly methods when the alternative

I used an old camalot 1818 with solder paste dispener system to do 0402 components on LTCC. It worked very well, but there are tricks that you have to learn. Volume and placement of the dots is critical. I am sure the latest dispense equipment have s

Tried with several lots of solder paste, manufactured in Feb and March this year. Work ambient: 25C, 60~70%. Is this humidity too much? I'll reduce the ramp in our profile. One change: We changed the conveyor motor in our reflow oven just before the

60-70% RH will be a challenge if you are running a water wash solder paste (and could be the reason you are seeing the problems). If you are running a no-clean, humidity should not be an issue. As long as the profile looks OK, I don't think the con

We find keeping the work environment at about 22degC and humidity to about 40-50% is the best way to control the solder balls. Before we took measures we were out of control with solder balls especially in the summer months. We run aqueous solder thr

Q1: What's the difference between static and dynamic viscosities? A1: Static viscosity is the viscosity of the solder paste as it is dispensed off of a tube or syringe onto a screen printer. Dynamic viscosity gives the variation in the thixotropic b

I know your frustration. CP6 feeders are notorious for this issue. They have always been an issue. You have probably went through the "change spring, change tape leaf, change component reel, place peeler tape over two rollers instead of three" scenar
