During soldering, the gold dissolves into the solder connection. You solder to the nickel. The gold protects the nickel from oxidation. Corroded nickel is very difficult to solder. So if your gold is thin, it may not protect the nickel from corrosion

Vlad, That was a bad statement to make... Enig should never be thicker than 5 micro inches max. or it will cause embrittlement. This process does self limit but it can put on as much as 10-14 Micro inches which would be a major cause of concern.

BGA Rework - flux dispensinx issue

Electronics Forum | Tue Nov 04 12:45:54 EST 2008 | smt123

Hi Martin, Have you considered printing the flux with a stencil? Stencils can be used for printing more than just solder paste. Quite regularly people use stencils for printing thermal grease, fluxes, conductive epoxy and more. The thing I like

Who is the Mydata TP series expert ?

SrTech, I do not know Mydata's but I had a problem with a solenoid for a nozzle changer that just didn't seem to be strong enough. Finally found a partial break in the wire. I seemed like this acted a resistance to the current flow and did not all

SN100C Selective Solder Voiding

Hello Hoss, try with the flux again. I would first change the flux. Alcohol based for me is always better. But you can try water based too. 1. Change the flux 2. Go with more pressure on your atomizer(or whatever they call it on your machine). Just

Steve, I finally played with it enough that it is working again. I ended up with Edge Threshold: 19; Intensity Threshold: 60; Offset: 200; Gain: 16 The problem seemed to be with the Intensity Threshold. I was not getting an error code on the screen

Calibration menu and then Index Cam Setup and follow the on screen instructions. (You can skip the focus step if you have not adjusted the camera's) The point you need to pay particular attention to is when it displays the intensity histogram, this

Inconsistent mounting on TOPAZ-X

If the whole board is shifted then it must be a problem with the clamping of the fixtrue to the machine or the board to the fixture, or the fiducial reading that is incorrect. Are the fixation of the board to the fixture the same in both programs? A

SMT Processing and gasketing

Electronics Forum | Tue Nov 11 16:30:08 EST 2008 | naynayno

Occasionally solder mask thickness is believed to be the cause of gasketing challenges during paste printing. We currently specific IPC-SM-840 on our fab drawings but this provides no limits or guidelines on thickness. I do not want to cause an unr

LCD soldered by wave... is that possible?

Electronics Forum | Tue Nov 11 19:04:28 EST 2008 | diesel_1t

Hi. We're developing production strategy for a new product and it have a display, as the yearly volume is very high, is almost impossible to made this by hand or by selective soldering. I wonder if anyone of you have done something similar with disp
