If this is a water soluble flux, then the discoloring is caused by the still active flux microetching the solder fillets. Prevention is to wash off all water soluble flux as soon as possible

We have some MLCC capacitors that show some discoloration, or spots. Does anyone know if this will affect reliability? Caps test good - and assemblies function perfectly.

cColor is NOT a measure of solder connection quality. It is a process indicator. So, you're being smart by trying to figure out whats causing he discoloration

You say the resistor is blown. Is the body discolored? Is it possible that these are not the colors, like maybe the first GOLD is actually orange? Perhaps post a photo?

Patrick- You have not given enought detail of the type of discoloration. Is it "white residue"? Can it be "rust" colored? Whatever it is, you fab supplier needs to be called in immediately and give you an exact reason for this failure. Just rubbing
