Electronics Forum: nickel pin residue (Page 7 of 14)

Re: Dark Pad / Gold Embrittlement?

Electronics Forum | Thu Jul 27 21:57:16 EDT 2000 | Dave F

Hi Doug: Responding to your questions: If gold over nickel is self limiting ... You didnt say whether you gold plating was electroless or immersion. Electroless is not is self limiting. It can plate up to 5 thou. Expect immersion plated gold to

Solder pot contamination

Electronics Forum | Mon Aug 09 20:47:21 EDT 2004 | KEN

I think OA flux left on the pot would quickly looses its activity and become part of the dross waste stream, and smoke stream for that matter. Also, if your wave is setup properly your selective pallets will scour (push) the top of the lambda wav

Re: Stencil Printing

Electronics Forum | Thu Jul 20 14:52:05 EDT 2000 | Bob Willis

If you are talking about Pin In Hole Reflow that is not true, I hope it was not my friends at Speedline that told you that. Stencil printing of paste for through hole reflow can be done. If you get all the parameters right it can give you joints lik

Re: Why Dry After DI?

Electronics Forum | Wed Jul 08 17:31:31 EDT 1998 | Dave F

smd: I think the idiom is "schmuck," rather than "putz." ;-) What are you concerned about? That the residual water in the 80 pin connector housing will flow down the boards and rot-out the bottom of your new boxes? Dave F | I am about to place a

Wavesoldering Defect

Electronics Forum | Tue Sep 14 18:27:37 EDT 2004 | MikeF

I would need a little more information to be able to rule out some of the possible causes. Have you checked to see if the pins with the minimal solder have anything in common, do all have traces to them? or internal power or ground plane connections?

Is test vias a good idea??

Electronics Forum | Mon Jan 31 11:34:58 EST 2005 | Chunks

Testing vias may be acceptable, but not preferred. If you do test by via, its a last resort type of thing. Vias are always a pain in the real world. Generally, they are soldered by wave, so they arent always doomed correctly, plus residue build-

Flux Residues In Lead Free Wave Soldeing Process

Electronics Forum | Tue May 09 21:53:06 EDT 2006 | KEN

What is your flux delivery system? Tell us a little more....please. I'm assuming ultrasonic. You can try to vary your air knife but if your pin / hole ratios are wrong then it may not help. Run a bare fab. If your problem goes away you may need to

Jammed Fuji CP65 Nozzles?

Electronics Forum | Wed Jan 31 09:54:52 EST 2007 | FredC

Rob, I am not a Fuji technician, but I have some knowledge on the nozzles, windmills, and headshafts. As far as I know the bore the nozzle travels in should be dry with no lube. The grease on the windmill shaft and locating pin is a special purpose g

Blowholes during wave soldering

Electronics Forum | Mon Sep 03 09:48:12 EDT 2007 | davef

Joris We dont know the maximum period to store the boards without having problems with blowholes. Too many variables to determine. We prefer to just fix the problem, but understand that you have stock that you need to build-down. Determining mois

Hi Larry, Picture a old lady with a set of knitting needles with leads attached to them, pressing the needles into different points of the PCB (pads, test points or component leads) and measuring resistance, inductance, waveforms etc between these p
