When the pads on the board are too large, the component tends to swim. This skewing can be a BIG problem with connectors, eh?

ohm out a sandard 25 pin d-sub. Make wire diagram. do the same to the lsm cable. If same, use standard cable. If different, buy cable and solder lug d-sub connectors and make your own cable. couple hours work.

Are there any Europlacer users out there placing Molex 25-way upright connectors. We try to, but with varying success. I would be interested to know what nozzle types, axis speeds, etc. anyone else is utilising.

Hi, What's the product, and how are they inserted? At 90 deg, or standing up? What brand connectors are you using? Regards, Grant

We use MOLEX 73101-0040 (it's 90 deg.)Our products are audio and video interfaces. Right now we are inserting these connectors manually but it is very time consuming because some boards have more than 20 BNC's.... Regards, Hiram

The shorts happen at corner of the BGA. The PCB thickness is 1.6mm, It is a PC motherboard with all thru hole connectors mounted on.The preheating is done using IR heater and the temp is 120-160 for about 70-80 sec.I am using ERSA IR550A

Hi, Thanks for the tip, and I will check that out! We have some heavy BNC type connectors, so they need a bit of heat, and this could be right that we are then overheating the flux. Regards, Grant Blackmagic Design

Any concerns on the IR in melting connectors etc. simply cover the part with aluminum foil. That will prevent any heat from attacking the component. The Ersa unit is in my mind the best bang for the buck.
