No clean is giving us problem in ICT. Other than that, a coating of flux should remain there to pretect the solder joint from the environment. In general you should not clean NO clean - it is supposed to be there.

For low volume hand assembly, deionized water or IPA should work fine.

For some reasons, we need to wash our BGA boards in ultrasonic washer in order to clean all flux residue under BGA. We use Ultrasonic cleaner with 40 KHz. Should we or shouldn't we do that. Pros and Cons ? Any idea appreciated.

OK good if you get really close to the two small solder balls trapped in that greasy waxy residue and carefully turn the balls over you should see that they are flat on the side stuck to the solder resist.

Wash the board or do what ever to get rid of flux /flux residue at the parts before running second side. If you can, use special reflow profile for the second side ( Less heat for bottom side).

Not really, if this is a normal consumer electronics, could be no big issue. Anyway flux residue provide ions and the substance absorb water or moisture. If for automotive or space, could have high risk, it depends your application.

We made much better contact of wave with board. There was not enough solder in bath. We increased it so wave height is higher with same pump power And now board is pushing dirty wave to the other side and board is much cleaner!

Dear Team, Can any body suggest that which is the best cleaning agent to remove the AIM M8 Flux residues from the PCBA After SMD Assembly by using Air agitation Method or with Ultrasonic Method.???

Thanks for the quick response. I’ll try it tomorrow and let you know if that worked. I do grease it but there may be residual older grease still there.

Hi, We were having flux residue entrapment under the component. So we are evaluating to add steam cleaning with DI water, using precision micro prior to Di wash. Have anyone tried this and what are pros and cons. Your advice appreciated. Thanks
