Is it just me?

Electronics Forum | Thu May 01 19:11:15 EDT 2014 | bobpan

As a small business owner and former FSE...Every customer is different. I can tell you that i talk to the customer and before i travel i will ask them....Do i need to bring my basic set of tools or can you supply basic tools. If not this saves the cu

Is it just me?

Electronics Forum | Fri May 02 14:30:48 EDT 2014 | jimmyboz

The last 3 posts were quite refreshing. I never said, but, I may have implied that "no tools necessary" is OK. No way. I honestly lost sleep over this thread. I was kinda playing "devil's advocate", but man what a response. I have been on every s

Is it just me?

Electronics Forum | Mon May 05 10:25:31 EDT 2014 | markhoch

I think what angered me the most was finding out that the FSE was going to need transportation to and from the plant every day. And I was more angered towards the Manufacturer's Sales Rep because my interpretation, though I may be wrong, was that the

New facility flooring choices TILE, EPOXY, rubber tile, sheet, carpet

Electronics Forum | Tue Apr 29 16:26:59 EDT 2014 | hegemon

Our facility is 5 years in the current configuration. We are in 75K sq/ft and went with glued down fully conductive tile throughout the factory. Looks great after 5 years, and we have a lot of traffic. In this setup, those same high traffic area

TL431 shunt regulator

Electronics Forum | Mon May 05 13:48:42 EDT 2014 | rway

Chances are you are using this as a 2.5V voltage reference for the feedback on your regulator. One thing that isn't clear is exactly what failure you are seeing. Please specify the nature of the failure. Is your power bus out of spec? I really ca

Electrolytic capacitor

Electronics Forum | Mon May 05 13:40:28 EDT 2014 | rway

The vent is there for reasons as the name implies. It's a safety feature to prevent the cap from exploding if over-tasked. Yes, without the relief on the end, the caps have a potential to become missiles when they go. I had one go off when my hand

Quad QSV-1 randomly destroying Z-rods

Electronics Forum | Sun May 11 17:29:17 EDT 2014 | bobpan

Most times when the machine oscillates when closing the doors it will be a problem with the digital i/o cards. I would check that the dip switch settings are correct. If they are correct i would look at replacing both of the cards. The boards are sub

low thermal emf solder & paste - SAC 405

Electronics Forum | Mon May 12 15:08:53 EDT 2014 | davef

I've never used SAC405. Not for nothing ... Other low temperature solder alloys that you should consider are: * Sn42/Bi58 [138*C]: Alloy for low temperature applications. Attention should be paid to potential embrittlement issues and poor thermal fa

Solder climbs on the lead and touches the body of the component

Electronics Forum | Mon May 12 13:55:19 EDT 2014 | hegemon

It sounds like a bit too much solder on the PWB, caused by too large a pad for the lead it will contain. In that case solder reduction is the way to move forward. What are the options there? 1. New stencil or stencils - (not desirable) 2. Increas

Solder climbs on the lead and touches the body of the component

Electronics Forum | Mon May 12 15:13:29 EDT 2014 | emeto

Thank you guys. As we are speaking I keep examine the problem and here is what I got so far. 1. I measured the temperatures on my profile and the lead is hotter than the board. The lead goes 12 seconds earlier than the pad and is taking the solder.
