support pins for double sided boards

Electronics Forum | Tue Sep 05 09:54:33 EDT 2006 | slthomas

We had the same problem with our E5. I had the shop make us a template for each two-sided board out of some 1/16" acrylic. The template had cutouts in it to drop the pins through where the bottom side parts weren't. Seemed to work fairly well, no com

A concern about conformal coating height

Electronics Forum | Fri Jul 06 10:08:21 EDT 2007 | blnorman

The coating thickness is more a property of the individual coating itself. The 0.03 - 0.13 is based on average properties of acrylics in general. It's like trying to pour 3 mils of motor oil on a table. The material will find it's own thickness.

Conformal Coating Equipment - Where to Start?

Electronics Forum | Tue Jun 09 12:35:18 EDT 2009 | jdumont

We have used an Asymtek C-740 for about three years now and its never had an issue even once. We spray Humiseal acrylic so I cant help you too much with the silicone but the machine itself is great. Opt in for the little process control extras lik

BGA failure after coating

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 08 08:15:39 EDT 2009 | kpm135

We've used both 1A33 urethane and 1B31 acrylic coating on our SMT assemblies with great success for many many years. This is with components of all shapes and sizes including a 9 ball micro-BGA. We apply the coating in every way imaginable and we hav

Conformal Coating Strip with Connectors???

Electronics Forum | Fri Feb 19 08:02:38 EST 2010 | duso02

We regularly strip conformal coating for military customers. Connector removal is not required. The type of coating is the biggest factor. Acrylics and silicones are easy and will come off nicely without any other damage. Epoxy and fully cured polyur

Epoxy damaging SMT Components

Electronics Forum | Thu Feb 11 12:02:47 EST 2010 | plaiming

We have temporarily switched to an RTV for the vibration reincforcement, but it is not compatible with acrylic conformal coating and we really do not want to switch conformal coatings to a silicone based. Additionally we are testing the product in h

Conformal coating mask dots and halos

Electronics Forum | Thu Feb 25 10:21:49 EST 2010 | jdumont

My guess would be that the adhesive used on the dots contains silicone. We use 1B73 which is also acrylic and it hates silicone. We use silicone RTV to permanently mask around some connectors and unless its fully cured before coating it will cause l

Conformal Coat over No-Clean

Electronics Forum | Wed Jun 16 11:49:55 EDT 2010 | tim_wright

A customer wants to coat a no-clean assembly to cut cost and cycle time. I know what wave flux I can use to make it work, but the Indium SMQ92J paste we use causes dewets. Any other no-clean pastes out there that play nice with acrylic?

1B31 Acrylic conformal coating problems

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 27 10:03:35 EST 2010 | duso02

Contact your distributor for the coating or Humiseal directly. Humiseal has had a recent issue with batches of 1B31. The specific problem is lack of adhesion, which is what you have as well. You need to find out if your batch # is one of the affected

Conformal Coating Equipment

Electronics Forum | Tue Feb 19 18:51:45 EST 2013 | tombstonesmt

We've had great success with acrylic based cut with xylene. Very accurate with little to no masking necessary for keepout areas, very rarely have to make adjustments on our Asymtek. On the other hand we have an Asymtek dedicated for silicone coatin
