Re: Why does everyone want to x-ray BGA?

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 17 15:06:57 EDT 1998 | Justin Medernach

| Hello Ya'll, | I've got what may be a silly question, but why does it seem so important to everybody that you have x-ray capability if you're thinking about doing BGA? | I know what most people will tell me; "Steve, that's a pretty silly qu

Forget all the bickering and semantics. EVERYONE IS RIGHT!! ...but then again, in soldering, there IS no right, wrong, or indifferent... just blame. :-) Soldering is, after all, the most difficult process with the most opportunities for defects.

Black color solder wetting after reflow

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 29 14:16:16 EDT 2011 | ppcbs

Below is the long explanation. This defect is most commonly found with BGA components, but can arrise with all components. I see it happening more now with lead free boards that are being assembled with a no clean flux. Best short term remedy is t

Transient Voltage Suppressors

Electronics Forum | Fri Mar 12 11:59:50 EST 1999 | Ray Morford

AVX and a few other companies make these chip transient voltage suppressors (TVS) parts that are a real *PAIN* to use. According to AVX: "Due to the semiconducting nature of the doped Zinc Oxide (ZnO) ceramic material, SMT TransGuards are no

Specification for Screw Torques

Also, check the website for Assembly magazine, http://www.assemblymag.com, they have some good information on the basics of torque. Determining the "correct" torque value can become very complicated very quickly. The same size screws made from differ

Lead laws threaten electronics

Electronics Forum | Wed Nov 07 11:27:28 EST 2007 | patrickbruneel

Grant, Thanks for sharing that experience with us; this comes to show what damage can be done when politicians make laws based on rumors instead of facts. New laws as drastic as removing lead in soft soldering should have been based on scientific e
