Re: measuring pitch

Electronics Forum | Mon Jun 07 15:12:13 EDT 1999 | John Thorup

| I was wondering what measurements are used to define pitch? Generally we would use it for the distance from lead center to lead center of an IC. For instance, an SOIC would usually have a pitch of 0.050" or 50 thousandths of an inch (1.27mm)|

We are currently using a product made by Syspro called Impact Encore. Although we have had misc. problems here and there in general it is a fully featured product at a reasonable price. It is worth checking out.

From the manufacturer's perspective, we aim to be able to fully inspect all components within the beat rate of the line and generally do. I'm not aware of any competitive machines that do the random sampling that is suggested above, however it is do

vapour phase reflow soldering technology

Yes, that's what people are thinking. The 217C melting temperature that you mention requires a ~250C reflow temperature. Generally, boards, legend ink, and components cannot take that temperature. Further, few ovens can produce that temperature

Thickness of solder paste from stencil

We measure the thickness of solder paste printed onto PCBs as a control of the printing process. Generally 6 thou stencils are used and give between 6.2 and 6.8 thou. What thicknesses do other users get? Cheers! Mark

Go one to one at 7mils for these connectors. Generally your stencil shop will do this for you. Somebody has the artwork since a stencil was made for it at sometime? Russ
