Just a guess-- Could you be seeing the nickel under the gold plating because you are removing some of the Gold with the Kapton Tape ? This should be easy to verify. Otherwise it sounds like things are pretty much covered.

Tony: Have a mask applied by the boardhouse which can be removed after soldering. We worked with pallets or tape but had bad luck with some boards. At present I would prefer a mask. M2C Wolfgang

Gold plating thickness on gold finger

Hi, Does anybody know what is the minimum gold plating thickness on the PCB goldfinger required by the industrial specifications - IPC, Bellcore, etc. Where can I find the information? Appreciate for the help! Thanks, Tony

Hi All, Does any one experienced the solder on gold finger after reflow. Its about 5 to 8 mils diameter . We'd clean the entire screen printer, mounter & reflow as well, but doesn't help much.

Flux splattering during reflow
