Make sure you are providing an adequate moisture bake out prior to wave soldering. It sounds moisture related since is so random. I would suggest perhaps 120C for a minimum of 8 hours to drive the moisture out, and then complete your wave soldering

Yes generally speaking yes if there is not contamination on the board from PCB manufacture. for dendrite formation you also need moisture and voltage during operation of the product. You can see many of my IPC Defect of the Month videos at showing yo

We are currently in a Clean solder process (SMT+Wave Solder+Washing). Now our management is planning to convert to a No-Clean process in SMT due to limitations of solder availability and reduction of washing process. Question1: Is it possible to was

As has already been mentioned, black residue is usually either from dross or just a dirty pot, pump, baffles, etc.. I also saw that maaaany years ago in a system that used a flawed oil intermix "feature" but hopefully those systems are long gone.

Looking for information on lead trimming after wave solder. Does anyone do this through automated equipment? I know ideally parts would be cut to length before insertion and not trimmed after wave solder but sometimes that is cost prohibitive. When n

We made much better contact of wave with board. There was not enough solder in bath. We increased it so wave height is higher with same pump power And now board is pushing dirty wave to the other side and board is much cleaner!

Jacki, your original post was regards to wave solder bath. With solder bar, there is no flux and you do not need to look for WS Sn100C. Sn100C is only a metal alloy. Regards, Shean
