Silicon contamination in solder joint

Electronics Forum | Tue May 27 12:40:50 EDT 2003 | davef

Hi Bill You said, "silicon". We assume by your discussion that you ment to say, "silicone". For background on silicone and soldering, check with Dow Corning [517-496-6000]. They make a OS2 [VOC-free] silicone stripper and should be able to give y

Ionic contamination vs selective soldering ?

We manufacture both bulk and localized ionic contamination testers. My answer is from the perspective of the cleanliness testing method. The issue with all bulk ionic contamination testers (Ionagraph, Omegameter, Zero-Ion), is that they test the en

contamination problem on boards after wave soldering

Electronics Forum | Wed Jun 17 16:08:37 EDT 1998 | upinder singh

We are facing a problem of high contamination on boards after wave soldering. We want the contamination to be under 24 ugm/inch square. We are using a no clean flux with the spray fluxer unit of wave soldering. The contamination is higher on the end

Wire bonding pull strength & substrate contamination

Electronics Forum | Thu Nov 03 07:43:52 EST 2005 | davef

Questions are: * Is the problem 'wire bonds that don't stick' or 'wire bonds that fall or break off later'? * What materials are you working with? * What is your working time after plasma clean? * What does surface analysis tell you about surface con

Thank You Michael, as I read on previous contamination related topics I planned to ask your opinion on that directly :-) but You were faster than my action :) I will share Your opinion internally and hopefully we will take further actions best reg

Golden Finger contamination with Solder after reflow

Recently we facing the Golden finger reject due to contamination with solder after the reflow. Any solution for this kind of reject ?

Golden Finger contamination with Solder after reflow

You don't clean contaminated gold fingers so much as you replace them. I once had the "cleaning" solution. It totally dissolved the gold fingers so that they could be replaced.

Iron (Fe) contamination in selective solder joints

Electronics Forum | Mon Jan 15 08:54:40 EST 2024 | SMTA-64304553

Trying to understand the impact of iron contamination above IPC recommendations (0.02%) on selective solder joints. Brittleness and discolouration are known but are there other factors that should be accounted for?

Wire bonding pull strength & substrate contamination

Electronics Forum | Thu Nov 03 02:34:46 EST 2005 | Rosewood

We've recently encountered some problems with wire bond strengths. I'm looking for anybody that has had some experience with different types of substrate contamination and methods for cleaning. There is no visible contamination on the gold pads, bu

Conductive contamination and the elusive solution

Electronics Forum | Thu Jul 12 16:57:46 EDT 2007 | jmelson

Canyou see this contamination? Is it solder beads, flux or something else? If flux, then more cleaning should help, either more time, more cycles through the cleaner, etc. If it is solder beads that are not melted to the rest of the solder, then s
