Cleaning PCB assemblies

Electronics Forum | Mon Feb 27 11:06:12 EST 2006 | melby

We are going to start conformal coating PCB assemblies, and I was wondering about cleaning the boards before coating them. Do I need to clean them and if so, with what? We currently us a no clean solder. I am worried about contamination on the board

PASTE DRYING OUT ON STENCIL

Electronics Forum | Wed Feb 09 13:24:31 EST 2011 | waveroom

I have a customer who's solder paste is drying out on their stencils. Humidity 40-45, Temp 70degrees, no air blowing on stencil, no cleaning stencils with chemicals. Handling of paste is done correctly. I'm thinking maybe the paste froze during shipm

Most of the PTH components are manually inserted. Some are auto-placed by our UIC machine. The parts are preped before install, so there is no need to trim the leads afterwards. The boards go through wave solder. The UIC machine has a clincher on

Lead Free Inspection/Rework/Hand Soldering Training

Hi all, Firstly, Wishing everyone a happy new year and a successful transition to RoHS (exempt entities please disregard the later part :-)) I am looking for a formal training institute/organization to train my operating personnel for lead-free hand

Surface Tension vs Part Mass

Electronics Forum | Tue Sep 12 09:50:31 EDT 2006 | C.K.

There is a formula for that out there somewhere. It has to do with the part mass and the area of solderable surface. If the part mass is too great in relation to solderable surface area, the part falls off in a d/s reflow cycle. Anyone remember th

Re: reflow profile

Electronics Forum | Thu Aug 24 09:41:46 EDT 2000 | Dr. Ning-Cheng Lee

The optimal profile to choose is determined by the following factors, (1) thermal mass and distribution across the board, (2) reflow temperature range needed for a particular alloy, (3) the nature of flux. When the thermal mass is small, such as cell

I have the identical machine and setup as you with the same issue(s). I looked at setting up for N2 but am choosing to retrofit to a standard lambda nozzle setup. If you are soldering bottom side SMT parts or other challenging assemblies, N2 may ma

Only used adhesives once and it was a disaster. I dont rearly have much experience but the real problem is everyone wants to compare adhesive with solder and they will not give the same results. There is a good book on adhesive check out my book re

Sir i have a question on Backing of Cards. pls. clarify me that Why we always do backing of cards(90 dC for 1hr. in a Oven) for the reflow process before printing the solder paste on the board. and same for the Curing process we are not backing the

Well put, MfgEng! Wave Solder did get lots of respect back in the day. It's a very scientifically-based process requiring knowledge of Thermodynamics, Physics, Chemistry, and Metallurgy, but at the same time, it's a very touchy-feely art form! At
