Double-sided reflow with a Altera 240-pin RQFP

Electronics Forum | Mon Jun 30 10:02:37 EDT 2003 | Steve Gregory

Hi Russ! An "R" QFP is what Altera calls their Plastic Quad Flatpacks that have a heatsink in the top...they actually call them Power Quad Flatpacks. I'm familiar with the formula, of how one can figure out if there's enough surface tension for a p

BGA soldering

Electronics Forum | Tue Oct 28 17:40:58 EST 2003 | davef

We theorize a secondary [bottom] side BGA can be wave soldered with planning. Issues are: * Keepout between the BGA and one side of the board that is clear of PTH parts requiring wave soldering, so to support the fixture. * Keepout around the BGA. *

I know that many smaller companies clean their stencils the same way you do. If you get good results cleaning your stencils this way then I would say stick with the alcohol/wipe method. Take your stencil and put it under a microscope. If the aperture

Double-Sided BGA Process

Hi All, Ok, now i have hit a brick wall with our design department and due to limited space on our standard sized boards we are going down the Double-Sided route. We have a 8 zone (4 Top/Bottom) Quad ZCR Convection (Ok! you can stop laughing!) and

Selective soldering justification

They are expensive so you need to have a lot of jobs that take a long time to hand solder or have a ton of masking. Also look at bottom side wave soldering, if you are having a lot of defects, the selective will allow you to solder both sides in surf

I apologize for my poor english. First: "Double sided sticky tape" is excellent for various reasons; right/left?. Second: NPI? Don't hesitate, If You feel that a certain machine in Your line cofiguration don't place certain/certain's components on th

One of our customers' products has a couple of adjacent 0603 packages (one resistor, one cap) that are .010" apart. They are side by side, not end to end. The adjacent pads between the two parts are electrically connected so bridging isn't an issu

Hi Grant, Boy, how do I say this - I might have to agree with Wave Master Larry. (Yeah, yeah - I know; Davef and Dr. Shocker will "burn me" again) "We" also solder large thru-hole connectors on with a selective solder machine. They measure 4 by 8

Need input on cracked caps/new reflow

You are correct that hand soldering ceramic capacitors often causes them to crack. They do not take thermal shock well. You might be able to reduce the amount of cracking by following the rework repair guidelines discussed in the fine SMTnet Archiv
