Hello to all,

We are encountered many problems/defects in SMT lines.I would like to know your suggestion or recommendation for SMT optimization and improvement. What are the step by step solutions in order to optimized and to improve the printer, pick and place(Panasonic CM402,CM301), AOI and reflow oven specially the yield, downtime, pick and throw of pick and place, efficiency? Your recommendations/suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Thank you, Jack

Howdy Jack, That is a huge request, It would help if you start from the begining of your process and break down the problems that you are having.

Hello jbrower,

Thank you for the feedback. Actually, our main problems is the pick and throw. Whats your suggestion how to control the pick and throw? What are the factors that affecting pick and throw? How to reduce the sources of variance at each step of the component placement process?Your response will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Jack,

I do not know what type of machine you are using and how old is your machine. But I have this problem before using Fuji machine. There are few things cause part throw.....placment speed, feeder, pick up tolerance, part dimension tolerance, etc.... How I over come this is to make sure the feeder is in good condition with no feeding problem and reduce the placement speed to the slowest speed. From there, slowly increase the placement speed. Normally, camspeed for placing 0805 and 0603 should not be problem, but after few years of running, there is wear nd tear.......now I'm using 80% to 90% placement for 0805 and 0603 component. I do a 100% inspection before reflow and spend almost 3 month to resolve the pick and throw and at the same time resolve misalignment and missing component. Todat the yield is talking about 98% to 99.5%.

Regards, EC

Hello EC,

Thank you very much for the good input. I really appreciated. Our mounnters is Panasonic CM402,CM301. Do you have any suggestions/procedure how to reduce the sources of variance at each step of component placement process?

Hello TS,

Our CM402 and 301 have encountered pick and throw. Do you have additional inputs? What is PT200?Please explain how it can help to optimize the program?

Hi TS,

Most of the machines will face this problem after been using few years.....I handling SMT equipments ( Fuji machine ) and process.....sorry if I have offened you......

Hi Jack, Firstly, you must able to tell which component having a high throw out. Put there to the slowest speed and slowly increase. Every increase may be 10%...... Before you slow down the speed, pls make sure your part information in the library is correct and tolenance not too large. And also feeder must be in good condition.

Hello EC,

We already done your suggestion but still no effect. Feeders already calibrated. Do have additional inputs for this? Also is the barcode eliminate 100% wrong value component?

Hi Jack,

The throw out is it after vision or before vision. Do u have any msn account.....using msn is much easy to discuss the issue with you.

Have you tried using PanaPro software to do optimization?

Pick and Throw? Try adjusting the recog lighting..

EC

Fix your machine rather than slow down the CAM, on 0603 & 0805 components CAM speed should always be 100% on any of the fuji machines.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned the single most important factor. p.m.'s. If the nozzles are getting dirty and clogged it's not going to do a great job of picking parts up.

Don't think in terms of variation. It's there it's unavoidable and undetectable. Make your system able to handle the variation. If you look closely at a group of (for instance) ceramic capacitors, they will all be slightly different.

The original poster no doubt was thinking that all parts are the same so why does it pick and place some but not others. Well the parts are not all the same if you measure accurately enough.

I noticed the first post is several months old and I'm wondering how it's going for him.
