Well as you have probably already noticed we relaunched our website this past weekend. It was a lot of work and took a little while but its finally here. That doesn't mean that we're "done" by any stretch of the imagination though. Most of the site changes came from suggestions in the past. One of the biggest things we tried to work on was overall site speed. We upgraded and increased hardware, recoded the entire site from the ground up, and are continually optimizing it. We've also strived to make it much more stable than in the past.
The most effective way of making this site better though is through feedback from the users. While designing the site I solicited feedback from many different people but as I said we're still not done. Please drop me an email at support@smtnet.com with any issues that you might have. If we don't know about it we can't fix it. If you do let us know of a problem you are having we can put it to the top of the list.
Probably the biggest difference you might see is the forum. We completely changed our format on this. However we are looking to make it resemble the old forum as much as possible. One thing that this new forum design does allow however is a place for a higher level of discussion, or at least to categorize discussion types. Now when posting a message you can choose different forums to post them in such as design, production, or future issues. Registered users may use the options (button located at the top of the forum) to filter messages, hide certain forums, or personalize it more. Registered users may also take advantage of the "While you were out" feature which shows you all messages since your last visit to that component (basically since you last pressed the button).
Ads. Unlike some of the opinions previously mentioned by Earl, we are not a mega-corporation and do require adverstisements for our revenue. We are however looking to revamp the method that ads are displayed. Ads are currently the same size as they were on the previous version of the site but we are looking into reducing them.
