China's RoHS version (very concerned about the environment) | 25 October, 2006

Electronics firms doing business in China need to be aware that while China RoHS targets the same substances restricted by the EU RoHS directive, the China policy stipulates that compliance can only be verified by testing done in accredited Chinese laboratories. So these labs will know the composition of the product down to the most minute detail, Gray explains. Any intellectual property, with respect to alloys or chemical content, is going to be documented by these labs.

Just business as usual in my experience. It's not like they try to hide this stuff.

That's partially correct. If products manufactured in China are destined for export out of China, they don't care what is in them.

And if products are destined for China, they don't want them made in China.

I hate being cynical but I hate even more that no matter how cynical I am I end up not being cynical enough.

Being cynical in a RoHS environment is dangerous; it might lead to "lead" dependency. I know it's not easy to accept the fact that the lead-free alloys and board finishes solder as well as my ceramic bathtub.

By the way what do you guys distrust the most Lead-Free or made in China?

Gotta be China...

We are selling our manufacturing base to slave labor, reverse engineering, uneven playing field and "Western" hating countries.

Exactly, TD.

They will milk you for as long as they feel is necessary...then adios. They sicken me with their reverse engineering zeal... Manufacture in the US, convince your OEMs that the deceit and logistics nightmares are not worth it!

Get over it guys. China isn't going anywhere and it would be too late to do anything about it now even if someone could.

It's our own fault for this anyways.......and I mean as consumers.

In times when we demand free cell phones, PC's for $100 and big screen TV's at prices that EVERYONE can afford.....there's only one place in the world where this crap can be manufactured and sold at these prices.

Or would you prefer cell phones at $1,000, PC's at $3,000 and TV's at $10,000? Remember those days of BC? Before China?
