Need Philips CSM84 PA1306/20 service manual | 8 May, 2007

I need a service manual for a Philips CSM84 type PA1306/20. I have the PA1306/40 manual, if that is any use to anyone. The 1306/20 was the last model with analog servo amps and DC brush motors, the 1306/40 was the first with AC brushless motors and digital servo amps, so they are totally different inside.

I would be glad to pay for duplicating the right manual, if somebody has one.

Thanks,

Jon

Andras,

thanks very much for the offer of the manual! I tried to email you directly. How can I get this file from you? I don't think I can take it as a single 71 MB file in an email, but I could get it as an FTP transfer.

Thanks again,

Jon

Andras,

Thanks so much for putting this manual up for download! It is exactly what I needed, and if I ever run into electrical problems with my machine, the schematics will save me an expensive service call. There is also a lot of calibration information that is just not in the other manuals I got, or didn't apply to this machine's software.

Thanks again, I greatly appreciate your help!

Not at all Jon. I have been using my CSM66 for 2 years and I think it is a very stable and abiding machine. It can place 0603 and 0.65mm pitch SSOP without any problem at 3000-3600cph. Easily and cheaply maintainable, so good choice for a "garage-workshop" as mine or for lower qty. assembling. Only feeders requiring some repair-time to work accurately (especially with 0603 capacitors).

I wish you good assembling: Andras

I did one batch of low-density (0805 and standard SO chips) with excellent results. I then spent some time figuring out how to calibrate the mechanical alignment station (most of the calibration offsets on this machine were either zero or several mm out of whack). Once I tuned up the offset for the MA station, it placed a .65mm pitch 144-pin TQFP very well. I eyeballed the chips before the reflow, all of them were dead on before reflow, but some drifted a bit during. I am making my own solder stencils, and am still getting the hang of tweaking the apertures for specific component types. I think I'm getting too much solder on some parts. I still have to finish making a replacement nozzle for the SO-size chips, the previous owner made his own and it gets poor vacuum, causing discarded chips. The vacuum hole is badly off-center. Other than that problem, the machine has already paid for itself (I got it for a song!) It hasn't paid for the whole project (moving, new doorway, etc.) yet, but will be well on the way with another couple batches.

Thanks,

Jon

I have finished the download and it has been most helpful in trying to get this machine back into operation. You wouldn't also have the programming/users manual? Also where do you locate seals for the micro-solenoids. They are labelled in japanese and the rough translation I got was kokanee. The parts were labelled A040-4E1.

Hello Andras,

I'm brand new to the forum and have been setting up and running a recently acquired CSM84VZ. If I could get a look at your manual, I might be able to track down the cause of some small but annoying x-axis positioning issues. Would it be possible for me to download it as well?

Thanks, Tom in Tulsa

GeorgeS: I'm pleased to help you. I was in the same situation some years ago...

tpappano: no problem, download it. But it should be noted that it is for CSMs with DC servo.

I recently purchased a CSM84VZ Type PA130460. The machine did not come with any reference material and its a pain learning by creating errors. Can anyone share with me any related material that is necessary to get the tool running smooth. Thanks in advance.

wycliffe (and I suppose anyone with a vision system):

You may save yourself some considerable headache with your CSM84VZ if you check one simple thing before you get too far: Make sure the long skinny macro lens on the head camera is screwed in snugly! I thought I had a servo problem because when would run the head back and forth during teaching and then run the machine, I would observe placement errors of a fraction of a millimeter. Oddly, after mounting the first board, then manually correcting the origin, everything would be consistent from then on. The actual cause came to light with a rattle and a clunk when after doing a couple thousand boards, I found the camera lens lying on the feeder rail. Tightened it, re-calibrated the head offsets, now all is well and consistent. I wish I had found it before I had tediously removed, disassembled, and cleaned the servo motors and their encoders, which of course, didn't help 8-)

Do you still have the manual for this? I'm trying to convert one of these into a cnc router. It has a perfect frame for a strong table with a good plenum for vacuum ducting. I'll need to mount a Z-axis to it, probably beef up the y-axis, and re-arrange the servos. I would simply like the servo driver info to try to figure out how to run them using a serial(rs232) or parallel computer port to interface with modern control programs such as linuxCNC. Do you have anything like that?
