I am seeing allot of issues with SOD-323's in our Heller Oven. The parts seem to move or blow off their pads. We do have all the fan speeds on low and still having this issue. The parts are sitting in the paste not on top, so there is some force on the machine placement. I have tried different profiles but no luck yet. We have a heller 1809xl. Just wondering if anyone else has this issue or possibly give something new to try. Thanks for your input. Also adding in here that it is a leadfree.

Could there be a vibration on or jamming of the conveyor of your oven that is causing these parts to tip-over?

Are there long lags between print and place, and place and reflow? Could your paste be losing some of it's tack?

our biggest problems with these parts is them laying on their sides after placement with a certain machine that we have. make sure that you do not have a planarity issue as well menaing that the leads are indeed below the body of the component.

I assume that the pads are the correct layout?

If the problem appears to be random... we had a similar problem. We found that the belt which feeds the PCB through the reflow oven would jump or lurch ahead. It was barley noticeable but if you have identified the frequency and time of the component movement you may be able to easily verify the potential of the this phenomenon. Just verifying the belt is tight is not enough.

I had the lurching issue...turned out I needed to readjust to cog wheels on the exit side of the oven. The cogs had slipped, and the chain was actually getting caught in the teeth...to the point that as the wheel turned, the chain would stay in it instead of releasing...and then suddenly drop. The resultant vibration was felt along the entire length of the belt.

Easy fix is put a drop of washable mask on the side of part before reflow. The mask dries before the solder reflows and holds the part in place. After reflow it washes away.
