Lead picking for inspection

One of my customers is requiring to drag a pick (Menda) on 100% of fine pitch leads. This is old practice and we got rid of this long long time ago because it causes more problem than fix such as joint damages, abrasion of pick, control of the pick and method, ESD, etc... Is anyone out there still using this method for inspecting open leads? How do you find the effectiveness screening opens?
