Thermal Conductivity Of Copper

Thermal Conductivity Of Copper | 18 December, 2000

Does the thermal conductivity of a copper trace on a printed circuit board change as the copper oxidizes? Is the oxide on copper a thermal insulator?

If so, should it be considered in an analysis of thermal resitivity between a ground plane and a heat sink? If so, what is the thermal conductivity of this material?

Yes,thermal conductivity does decrease since all metal oxides are insulators to varying degrees, and this should be considered in trermal analyses. It is best to protect the copper against oxidation, however.Again,I suggest you include this question in your E-mail to Author Konsowski,as I greatly respect his knowledge in this area.
