Component price database - which or how?

I have a little problem. We are assembly subcontractor and we purchase most parts ourselves. Currently we have all BOM/Partlists in an Excel format.

We get a few RFQ each month, prices come from well known original sources, Mouser, Digikey etc. and go into the Excel file.

So far so good. There is of course some overlapping of parts in several BOMs. Often with different prices. Sometimes we spend time to find a price on a special part, which is actually already used on another product.

I like to find some sort of database where I can input our price (with a date, currency, maybe datasheets) and have that stored either on our office server, or on our net server.

Ideal would be something that can work with Excel (but we can change that too). It should be accessible to several people and searchable. MS Access as DB is possible MySQL would be better, php as search language is fine too.

Any out of the box software products out there? How do you manage you RFQ parts data (which is not inventory yet)?

Might try PARTMINER.com they may have something to help you in this realm. Good luck

I look more for a software to handle our data. I know partminer.com from the past, it's more like a search engine as I remember. Great for substandard and fake components if I remember too.

You can save your boms and Partminer will let you search that data along with capturing what you paid last time the time before and maybe if there are any opportunities to get the part cheaper somewhere else. Helps us keep track of the parts we have with out buying duplicate parts that are already in the data base.

We've been using Parts and Vendors for awhile now. It's not a bad low cost solution. It's mostly a BOM/engineering tool, with some inventory and purchasing thrown in for good measure. It's not terribly automated, but can be used with some level of success, though it needs pretty regular monitoring.

If you're also looking for some higher level MRP activities, DBA is not a bad lower cost solution, as well.

cheers ..rob

I am looking again at Partminer. Can you filter them to get only in contact with franchised suppliers?

We don't want any contact with brokers or traders. We got already too many fake and defects parts from them.

yes you can have Partminer only look to franchised distributors....but we have gotten our best deals from overseas OEMs that just have leftover parts. Also if there is ever a question about counterfeits etc. I believe that they have an independent test lab for due dilligence etc.

Ofcourse you dont have to buy parts from Partminer you can just track your own parts and leave it at that if you like. Good luck

Maybe I am getting a bit off topic and should rephrase:

How you handle BOMs? Or what software you use for BOMs?
