0402 Components and Solder Paste | 20 July, 2000

With 0402 components becoming more common today outside of the telecommunications industry, our company is qualifying equipment and processes for an upcoming product incorporating 0402s. Having used 0402s in a previous position, I am planning a DOE of our materials and processes to smooth the road to a successful implementation. Do you have any current data or preferences in regard to pad geometries (shapes) and dimensions? Do you feel there is any value to the �anti-tombstoning� paste formulations being offered by some vendors?

I have just measured my new test board and the dimensions are 0.025� square, 0.015� seperation with resist aperture 0.004� larger. Don�t know when I will be using it yet.

I have not seen a head to head with these pastes yet, I know that Panasonic are fans.
