SMT Stencil Printer Recommendations | 22 February, 2012

Hi,

We're looking to buy a second user stencil printer with fully automated alignment and ideally 2D solder inspection. We're looking at DEK and we use their 23" Vectorguard stencils already, but can anyone advise a particular model. Probably something aged mid 2000's onwards.

Thanks

We have 6 Ekra printers and have no problems with any of them. Also great tech support. Also use vectorguard stencils

I don't have our DEK printer part numbers memorized, In general we have a older machine running NT4.0 . It has 2Di inspection but we never use it because you can only inspect/setup 1 camera shot at once, making for very long programming.

Our newer DEK has the hawkeye system and a 750 camera. This system in general works ok, But has some limitations.

If you intend to scan a whole panel say 6x5 inches, it could make your printer cycle time over 90 seconds. This could starve the PNP machines, depending on there cycle times. Easy to get around by Selectively looking at stripes of your small parts.(You cant set it up by circuit, so you must define a new inspector once for each circuit.)

It cant see over pasting, only low solder.

It has major issues with dust on a stencil during program load, as it re captures the stencils image every program load. If the stencil bottom is perfectly clean there is no issue. If there's a single spec of dust, it will think its a aperture and attempt to check the board against it, even if the would be aperture is smaller than physically possible.

It has some minor issues with white X out marks causing false positives.

DEK has a 1450 camera or something like that, that will cut the scan time in 1/2 Also they are willing to license the version of hawkeye with over pasting inspection to owners of the better camera.

Our biggest gripe with DEK is there blue under screen cleaner, The new paper rolls from DEK don't fit it, and it is constantly not cleaning because it thinks its out of paper when the roll is new.

Last 4 years I work with printer by SJ Inno Tech, model HH-520. This model have all what you want - fully automatic alignment, 2D inspection, many different pins for PCB fixing - and no any problems during this 4 years.

P.S. Sorry for my English, I'm from Ukraine.
