Does anyone have a recommendation for a cleaning solution used in an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning RMA solder paste off stencils and adhesive off pcb boards. I am going to be evaluating Armakleen 2001, Zestron Vigon SC 200, and Aqueous Technologies SC 125.

Thanks

As I mentioned in the previous string we are happy with Electrolube "SSS". The guy who built our ulrasonic cleaners recommended it and it works very well. You don't have to change tanks or machines for a switch from paste to adhesive. It doesn't leave white residue after cleaning up rework on no clean solder pastes either. It is not classed as flammable. He also suggested we try "Orange Solve", but we never got the chance.

Your selections are good, assuming you are talking about cleaning raw paste, rather than reflowed RMA. Maybe add Multicore Prozone, JNJ Aquasonic, and Kyzen Aquanox.

You should check the archives, there has been much written on this subject in the past. Asking about the correct chemistry is wise. It never ceases to amaze me how many people think ultrasonics will work without the proper chemistry. Without the right chemistry, ultrasonics won't work either. I recommend the original chemistry developed for ultrasonic stencil cleaning by Smart Sonic. I have had opportunities to use it on RMA, no-clean and adhesives and it works great, plus it has environmental certification.

Im using Zestron's Vigon sc 200 in our ultrasonic cleaner. It works great for cleaning our adhevises and pastes (RMA and no clean) from stencils and misprinted PCBs. We used to use a saponifier which did a terrible cleaning job and was a real pain to get rid of when contaminated with lead.

Can you tell me a little bit about the Zestron product. How many stencils do you clean and much Zestron do you use per month? What is the cost? Do you mix it with water? If so, what temperature? How do you get rid of the waste?

Thanks.

5 stencils/day. Not sure of the cost, it is high, but I only use a little each month so it is cheaper than the 50+ gallons I was dumping out each month of the old stuff. Mix it with water and use at room temp (dont have any eaters).Dont create any liquid waste from the wash. Rinse does to an evaporator. Solid wastes (filter) to regular hazardous wastes.
