Small components sticking to nozzles | 3 November, 2022

Hey I'm having an issue with a samsung 421f component placer. The machine is fine on the first 5 boards then on the 6th or so it just throws them wherever. The problem is the smallest flat components start sticking to the nozzle even after hitting the board. So far I've cleaned out the spindles and vacuum tubing and filters above the heads, I've also slowed the placement speed and decreased the time delay on the vacuum when it places them. I tried using a smaller nozzle because the size of the parts but I'm finding maybe using the original size nozzle (larger) would be better at suction and blowing. The thing that has me stumped is everything seems to be working fine then it will randomly occur a few boards in with no errors or alarm codes going off. I'm guessing it's a mechanical error but I'm still fairly new to all of this so any help or suggestions would help out a lot thank you

You described cleaning the spindles and filters, but did you clean the nozzles? Perhaps you got some paste on the nozzle. Also, did you perform the vacuum and blow off testing? Make sure your solenoids are working properly.

Is it all 6 heads that are doing this? Are you using more than one of a particular nozzle? If you are using the CN065 nozzle in slot 15, swap it with the CN065 in slot 21 and see if the problem follows.

There's a bunch of things that could cause this, and honestly I've spent time moving things around, swapping nozzles from other machines, slowing the machine down, and sometimes it sort of "fixes itself", which sucks.

Also, be sure that your support pins are set correctly and do not allow the board to sag or bounce. Next, is your z correct? Its possible you are pushing the part so hard into the PCB that it's pushing back up or even bouncing the board and throwing the parts.

When you say flat parts, do you mean CAP & RES or what?

I did clean the nozzles, but some of them are older so I will check and swap out with better looking ones. Thank you for the response, troubleshooting seems to be the main part with these things
