How to Identify Marubeni SMBB-Type LEDs from Drops | 28 May, 2025

I've got a bunch of Marubeni SMBB-series high power LEDs that came as drops, and I'm having trouble figuring out which ones are which. They all look exactly the same -- same size, same shape, no markings -- and I know they're not all the same part number. Only difference is wavelengths for them.

Here's the series I'm talking about: https://tech-led.com/product/high-power-led/smbb-high-power/smbbseries/

The problem is that the whole series shares the same package, and there's no way to tell the difference just by looking. I was wondering:

Is there any way to test these to figure out what wavelength/color they are? Has anyone dealt with this kind of situation before?

Try powering each LED at low current and check the color. For accuracy, use a spectrometer to measure the wavelength. It's the only way to tell them apart if they're unmarked.
