Does anyone know 2-pin DIP components? Who uses them, why are they in the DIP form and not simple axial components? Are they usually placed by hand or by modified DIP placement machines? Thanks for any answers,

Erhard

Good Morning, 2 pin DIPs were used in the 80's and early 90's on thru-hole boards as filter capacitors. Universal Instruments has (had ?) a machine called the Multimod which was a 2 head dip inserter. The one I used had a head just for 2 pin dips, and another for standard .300 IC's. I am sure you could find one on the used market. it was a fine machine for the job.

I haven't seen 2 pin dips since SMT has come to the front. They were useful parts but did have a tendency to loosen and fall off the boards during handling.

Hope that helps.
