We've had success with AirVac's DRS-22 system. Their people seem to understand the rework process better than many other suppliers. I'm sure you can find them on the Web. Note: When looking at a competing supplier's equipment last year, the demo guy showed me a PBGA that he had just soldered to his test board. I noticed that the bottom of the BGA was flush with the board -- ZERO standoff! I pointed this out to the guy, and he says, "Yeah, pretty nice, huh?" I just smiled and thanked him for the demo. That experience was similar to another demo from a different supplier. In some cases, this other equipment might (?) be capable, but the people doing the demo (reps?) simply don't have a clue. We bought AirVac's system largely because their people DO have a clue, and the equipment has worked well.

The people I work for decided on the Pace equipment. They compared it with others including the ever impressive Conceptronic. The major difference was the ease of operation concerning programming and mechanics of locating, picking, and placing. The preheat on the Conceptronic was "cool" but the rest of the process was too cumbersome. As much as I like the "Big C," I agree with their decision to go Pace. Earl Moon

No, $60K is for the DRS-24 which has replaced the DRS-22. The 24 adds more bells and whistles, like motorized Z axis. I think they are pricing themselves out of the market, although I understand they are offering a stripped down 24 which is essentially the old 22. I have had a 22 for about 1 1/2 years and like it very much. Process profile is completely controlled by the software so I know what is happening to the board and part (you profile it just like an oven.) Bob
