Brian,

Since the change, I have seen numerous instances of extra zeros being added to numeric values, typically those of 3 (original) characters or more. Case in point, a contribution by our friend Mr. Fish that I have cut and pasted:

"The steadfast rule of thumb is: In order to get reliable reflow, you need to be at or higher than [liquidus + 200C] for about 5 to 10 seconds, rather than those old "60 seconds above 1830C" guideline. This provides for setting your peak based on the actual alloy you have selected that is the mixture of the component finish, solder, and solderability protection."

Somebody let me know if they don't see "liquidus + 200C" and "60 seconds above 1830C" in the above paragraph, because that's what I see and I've been seeing the same kind of stuff since the conversion. I hope it's not just me.....

Dave, are you telling me that yer tryin' to pawn that off as a superscript "degree" symbol??? Wass' wrong with 183C, fer criminy's sake? (fighting urge for more defensive ranting)

I'd swear a couple of old posts changed the way they displayed after the format change. 'K, maybe it was the Pyramid Hef. I had last night. Gotta get back to my RH roots. :P

Some of the posts lately seem to have little open rectangles where the punctuation marks would be. I'm just wondering whether that is what Steve was talking about. They can look a bit like zeros, albeit squared off..

It makes it hard to read.

Those that I just typed all show up the way you apparently expect them to, but your 0176 example is still just displayed as a standard 0 for me. The other two appear to be subscript zero and cap. O to me.......

I noticed a message in the reflow oven chain lubrication thread that talked about 2460C. I assume this is the same problem, and that it was really intended to be 246degC. It isn't an overall problem, only a few postings seem affected. Only a few posts have the rectangles instead of punctuation, and Steve's attempt at alternate characters shows up fine for me. Hmmmmm.

Well I guess this would explain why since reading these posts that when I put a board into the oven it never comes out and there is a funny smell! It was difficult however to get the temp up to 2460 C for 200 seconds.

I have never had this extra zero thing by the way

Here let me try this out. There are some special characters that have certain html codes. Quotes are an example, same with trademark references...and degree symbols.

This should be a degree symbol: °

so I could write: 99.9°

Now, to use this you type: ° exactly like that.

ex: 99.9°

This also looks like a degree symbol (although its not one):

º

99.9º

That's this: º

ex: 99.9º

As to why I made if appear as a degree symbol up there and in its raw form below...well I'm magic.

So, I believe you can now add those extra zero's to my paycheck (at the end please not the front).
