How can one go about defining the complexity of a PCB for characterizing reflow profiles

A large balanced board may be easier to profile than smaller unbalanced board ?

Any ideas how to define an index to calculate the complexity based on size, weight, thickness, distribution of thermal mass, type of components etc etc

thanks all

Our old friend Bob Willis posted at his site [ http://www.bobwillis.co.uk ] a document that may be a good starting point. In the "Download" section, look for "New Product Design Evaluation Form (Word.doc file)".

Certainly the number of solder connections per square inch is a measure of complexity, but that may not get at what you're seeking. Possibly pre-reflow board weight per square inch, with a factor for board thickness?

Take a look at the product here: http://www.kicthermal.com/products/KIC-Auto-Focus.pdf

KIC uses a previously profiled product library to calculate in spec reflow profiles for new products. Just enter you dimensions and if finds a solution for you.

Hi,

Yes did use that. but how to claassify a board based on complexity still remains ? Davef made a begining

will appreciate if we have more comments

Thanks
