Fuji CP6 Feeder Problems

I know I have posed this question before, but I would like to open this discussion again. We do several change overs through the course of three shifts on our CP642 line. When we start a new job, we have tons of tape feeder overlay problems.(The overlay does not pull back) I have been told that the feeders need to "run in" before the take up works properly. It seems as if you need at least three rotations on the take up spool for it to function like it should. I visited another facility and watched them start a new job.Their machine did the exact same thing. This is causing us serious throughput problems because we run several jobs that use both D axis tables.Some feeders may only have 1 or 2 picks per board, so it could take a full shift for the take up reels to work properly. I have talked to several experienced Fuji techs and I have tried all the feeder "tweaks" to no avail. I have also verified that the station 1 feeder actuate stroke is correct.

Does anyone else see this problem ? If so how do you deal with it ?

I know your frustration. CP6 feeders are notorious for this issue. They have always been an issue. You have probably went through the "change spring, change tape leaf, change component reel, place peeler tape over two rollers instead of three" scenario like everyone else.

I use Threebond, Super Cleaner 6602, to spray the clutch on the feeders. This cleaner, cleans oil and grease that may be in the clutch and it dries out completely. It helps if the clutch is slipping. Try it out.

In case anyone is interested, I found a solution to the problem. The 3 nylon rollers that the overlay tape rides on have a tendency to build up crud inside them. They may appear to function correctly when there is no overlay tape pushing on them, but when you install the overlay it causes them to bind just enough to keep the overlay from being pulled back.

Take a cotton swab with a little spray silicone and swab the inside of the roller and the roller axle. Overlay problems go bye-bye.
