Hi,

Can anyone help me find an earth friendly cleaning chemical for populated printed circuit board? The end product is power supply and with mix components (through hole and SMD) We need 1 part chemical only that can clean a non water soluble flux. Please provide me web site and some information of your experience with this kind of process.

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you, Arman

Dave,

We are using 2 parts of chemical today 1 for wash and the other 1 for rinse, but this is very expensive and time consuming as we have to make preparations for two chemicals.

I believed that there are manufacturers of 1 part chemical use for this type of application. please help.

Thank you

Contact Mike Konrad at Aqueous Technologies. He posts here often. So his contact information should be in the searchable archives.

Check out Envirosense - their cleaning chemistries are very enviro-friendly, and extremely effective - their website is http://www.envirosense-inc.com - if you contact them, see if you can reach Mark Palmer.

Here are three VOC free chemistry suppliers. Their chemistries will clean no-clean and RMA flux residues:

www.kyzen.com

These chemistries (Zestron, Kyzen & Envirosense) mix with water and require a DI water rinse after. I do not know of any non-aqueous cleaning chemistries that are enviromentaly safe.

Pete, I think you mean these are all companies that supply chemistries that CONTAIN VOCs. Zestron, Kyzen and Envirosense all make cleaning chemistries containing VOCs.

They have some with VOC content and others without, or very very low content that it will pass NJ and CA emmissions, which are the toughest in the USA.

I agree, some will and some (most) won't. Your term "VOC free" was misleading. In any case, many of us have total VOC emissions to be concerned about and we cannot afford to bring in any additional VOC products.

I even had to switch my stencil cleaner chemistry out because of "very low content."

Are you aware of Austin American Technology's "Mega" process. It combines MegaSolv chemistry with the Mega II cleaning system. MegaSolv is a single non-aqueous solvent which is deionized by the Mega thru a special solvent compatible mixed bed on-board filter. The solvent is reused so, chemical consumption is very low. The Mega process cleans most non-water soluble fluxes (most RMA's & No-Cleans).
