I'm doing some research into some various costs for defects and work stoppages in an SMT environment. Specifically, I'm interested in what are the costs for a company to rework defective boards...from easiest to hardest component but not to include component costs. Also the impact financially on a company when an SMT line breaks down...sort of what does it cost a company every minute of downtime. I understand it will vary on the product cost but it would be nice to hear various opinions on this. I remember a plant manager years ago telling me it cost his company thousands of dollars every minute the line was down. A very high volume operation though. Is this typical?
