Hi,

Just wondering what, if any, design rule checks each of you do prior to running new products. Comments from contract manufacturers particularly welcome.

We have a 70 page check we use. Just need to verify the board layout can be processed thru all required processes.

Chunks, After how many pages of non-conformance does the boss tell you that you really don't have to make it?

Hi,

As chunks said , 1. make sure the board can run thru the process this might mean adding v-score or tabs for support. Each of your machines will have a min & max width. 2.We also check for proximity of components and fiducials to the edge of board usually >5mm. 3.Check that there are fiducials.

The above checks are purely for Processing the board thru the machines. There are lots of other checks for stencil design etc.

It depends. If it's a current desing that can't be changed, we go outside the box on any issue to see if we can build it. Then it all comes down to time versus dollars. If it's a new product we offer suggestions to the customer and try to bang out a solution that again is cost effective.
