MPM printer paste dispenser

Hi everyone, I am looking for positive and negative feedback on the use of the paste dispensing system on MPM screen printers. We currently have four machines with this capability that we do not use. Our printer operators insist that the dispensing system was never used and they always applied paste manually. The higher-ups feel that auto dispensing will save time and material in our process. Please comment on any experiences with this feature. Thanks.

The paste dispensers work well as long as the humidity in your shop is properly controlled. If it gets too humid, and the paste gets "soupy", then it will take less air pressure to dispense it onto the stencil. Paste dispensers use a controlled, pre-set, air pressure. Depending on the viscosity of your solder paste, the amount of air required to dispense the proper amount will vary. You could very well end up dispensing too much paste if your humidity is not properly controlled.

I thank everyone for their input, I have ordered a few missing parts and will try the auto dispense feature. I believe our production floor humidity is properly controlled so hopefully no problems in that area. I do have concerns with the dispenser standing perfectly vertical. Does the flux separate from the paste and pool at the top if it stays in the machine too long?

Thanks.

Seems that if you are worried about the paste staying in the machine for too long then you are not the type of user "auto paste" was designed for..........and you will see zero benefits from it.

This feature was designed to try to squeeze another few seconds out of overall print time back in the days when equipment for high through-put ruled the earth. In this day and age it's a useless feature. I would guess that for every fifty printers in the field that have this feature in place, one customer uses it.

I agree with Fastek. Auto dispense is for high volume. We have 5 printers with this option and never use it.

PS: Harry...why don't you post on the site ? Is there a conspiracy ?

Hi Sr. Tech well I'll tell you why. If the people that bought these so called bargains, would as least call and ask for the price for a machine. But no they buy a piece of equipment and then expect to get free tech support to get it to work. Then when they don't under stand how to operate it, they repost for more free info. I answer their questions on the phone and don't try to sell them any thing at all, but as least they think enough to call. Several have even went to mpm and paid very high prices for parts and then called me for the switch setting, when we sold the same parts (new) at a fraction of the price. I have found several cases where they buy a so called bargain and paid more for it than they could have bought a operating one from us. Most of these bargains don't even have the front or rear chucks and that means that you can't run a board across the machine if it did operate. I wonder how half of the regulars on this site get the work done that the owners are paying them to do. I'll keep checking the mpm questions, I certainly do need a good laught when I can get one. Probly should have kept my mouth shut, but just wasn't able to on this one. Thanks for the question, now I feel a lot better

Sr Tech We have worked on mpm since 1995 and when I worked for mpm I thought I knew the machines very well. After being self employed since 1998 we realized that we didn't know hardly any thing. I charge a very small amount for a year of tech support and we answer the phone 24-7. Why should I or any one that know these machines continue to give free support day after day. There is no customer loyalty today. I have end users call me no less than 10 times a year to tell me" I bought from your one of your competitor's and the machine dosen't work so he said to call harry". If you don't believe me call and I'll give you names. " People if it dosen't work it is not a bargain " Now I really feel GOOD! Harry PS sr tech do I know you? Maybe Don Harry

Harry,I know what you mean. You are completely right and justified. My father owns his own business and I see stuff like what you described all of the time.

Yes we have done business before. I worked with you when you were with MPM and after you started your own business. We(your company and my company) had an "incident" with an SPM machine years ago, which I think caused some silly grumbling on both sides.

But moving foreward,..myself being the technical type... I know that you know the MPM's inside and out. I would hope that we could put that "event" behind us.

We have 10 or so assorted UP2000's, SPM's, and AP25's in current production. I am always looking for pieces parts and such.

Sr. Tech I thought that was you, and have been wondering how you was doing. Any one that has been around this pcb business, if there is a business any more, knows that we all get involved in dealings that we could have done different. I do have a few dealers and customers that I don't deal with but your not one. Glad to hear from you, have a good one. You knew better than to ask me my opinion, didn't you? Harry

Thank you all for your input, I knew this would be a feature that could cost us money in the long run and your responses confirmed it. I believe we will still try the autopaste to prove/disprove the usfullness of the feature.

Regards.
