End of oven card detector

End of oven card detector | 12 August, 2008

We have had a few circuit cards come off the end of the oven and get damaged. Most cards have no problem sliding onto a ramp, but a few don't fare so lucky. Has anyone had any luck using a motion detector with an audible alert? I tried google, but I found nothing but cheap kids toys, and expensive alarm components. I want something simple, but not some battery-powered toy.

Many years ago... my old engineer used a very simple unit bought at Radio Shack. It was a device that they use in door ways to announce someone was entering the store. It used a beam of light and when the board broke that beam, a bell/ring/noise would sound off letting the operator know it was time to get/check the board.

We used a photo-optic sensor powered off the conveyor after the oven that is tied to a relay that trips when a board is seen at the sensor which causes a buzzer to go off. Very simple to make.

Good luck.
