Could be your drive(s) getting full. The individual program files and picture files used on those machines are huge.

SWAG may be correct. The program files, the defect data, and images do pile up. You will also experience this is you have a lot of components that are not linked to your libraries. These too will add up over time, and cause considerable slowdown. 'hege

We have also experienced the same. a RAID array helps but there are a lot of static waits in Mirtecs software so it dosen't matter how fast you make the computer it still takes the same time to do a lot of waiting on the computer tasks. For example

We upgraded our AOI computer from what was a stock Pentium D single hdd to... AMD Phenom II X4 955(i think we went for high single core speed and it was roughly double to the old processor in single core speed). We also did a RAID 10 using 4 WD Black 1TB drives and 4GB of ram. On board radeon hardware graphics with dedicated on board ram.

About 700 - 800$ total

What sped up. * Operating system * Open office * loading files * Reloading the program(see crashes). * repair plus * small random delays during inspection(due to high complexity) * Inspection time cut by 10 to 0% depending on the board.

What did not speed up. * Saving board files. * the long delay after scanning the first panel after loading a file. * Some random pauses during inspection on high complexity files * some parts of loading the program * Replaceing a part using a library part.

On your current system go in the bios and disable hiperthreading, It gave us a tiny speed boost.

It is very important to run a GFX card with its own ram, this helps windows do a lot of normal windows things.

We did not attempt to run windows xp 64bit, Had we done that and it worked, we would of thrown 8GB of ram at it and configured windows to buffer a lot better. (something that windows is never good at).

Hello All,

Some of the issues reported in this thread sound similar to those commonly experienced with network delays. A very simple way to determine if this is indeed the case is to run directly off of the system hard drive versus a network hard drive.

By all means, please DO NOT hesitate to contact MIRTEC directly for assistance. We are here to help!

I will go with Hegemon and Swag, our mirtec has those delays too, our system run locally, and when the hard drive gets full it crash, so we had to install a second hard drive of 1TB and save all pictures there like a backup we run it every weekend, normally I do it from home on a sunday morning, and that has prove to work at least with our system.

cheers!

Hello all,

Just a quick intro as I am new to this group... My name is Phil, and I work for a small electronics company in the Channel Islands. We make boards for many companies.

I am the Mirtec MV-3L user, and I am intrigued by this thread. Our MV-3L is running on a Dell Optiplex GX620 with a Pentium dual-core 2.8GHz processor and 3GB RAM, and running XP service pack 2. The HDD is just a mere 60GB. Although this PC is connected to a network, it is only used for overnight backups.

As yet, we I have had no problems with slow behaviour at all. The only thing that can be slow is opening some branches of the parts library, usually only when there are a large number of parts present in the branch.

I can only assume you are accessing stuff from the network, such as "open PCB model" and your parts library? Running everything on the local machine presents no issues at all as far as I can see.

Regards PhilC
