Does anyone have a calibaration pocedure for flat radiant panel preheaters used in wave solder. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you are concerned with the actual temp of your pre-heater verses what the machine's display "says" the temp is, use a calibrated digital thermometer and place the thermocouple probe inside the pre-heater and next to the machine's thermocouple for the corresponding pre-heater to check. See how close the temp measured by the digital thermometer is to what your machine is displaying as the temp. If its off by +/- 2.2 deg. C (Electrovert's specification- check your mfg.'s), then consult your wave machine mfg. for corrective action.

Dear Pete, thanks for the reply. My calibration procedure says pretty much what you said: variance of 10 degrees F. I am having a temp. swing of close to 80 degrees F. and no matter how I try to situate the thermocouple back into the preheater, I can't seem to get rid of it. I can make the temperture higher or lower, but I can't make it stablize. Maybe I am having a problem with whatever controls it. Drives me crazy.

Sue, It may be a thermocouple problem or the PID heater controller. Check with the wave machine mfg.'s tech support.
